Starting to break the habit?!?!?

Journal Entry: Fri Nov 9, 2007, 12:49 PM
  • Mood: Annoyed
  • Listening to: The One - Vanessa Carlton
  • Reading: Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman (<3)
  • Watching: You, hopefully. :)

The Talking Part

So, as usual, I'm browsing the most popular deviations
(btw, congratulations to *Gild-a-Lily and ~balloons :excited:). Now, usually I'm browsing this section being (I'll admit) a little uncomfortable with the lack of originality the most popular deviations have. I was so pleasantly surprised to see original work on the front page of the photomanipulation section. Here are some of the great images I saw!

Maybe it's just today, but maybe deviants are realizing that putting emotion and thought into a manipulation makes it so much better than something made just to look pretty. Either way, I'm really proud for photomanipulation today!

Give Thanks! (A Contest) [link]
Letters are literature, too! Has your mother ever made you sit down and write a thank you letter to your least favorite uncle for his generous pair of itchy woolen socks (but wouldn't let you say what you really wanted to)? Is there someone out there you've been meaning to thank but never got around to it? Do you have a letter you're brave enough to write but not brave enough to send? Is there sarcasm lurking somwhere close by, anxious for a new outlet? Do you want to thank someone for something they don't even know they've done for you? If so, this contest is for you!

If you are having a contest and you'd like for me to feature it, please note me!

If you're wondering about the Spook Me Contest, I haven't forgotten about it! My schedule is in my shoutbox. I'm a little behind, but I will be trying to catch up tonight. (I had a lot of entries, guys!)

Literary Features

Since I featured so many photomanipulations, I thought I'd feature some poetry and prose today by different deviants.

A Useless Deviation Maybe is written during one of those all too familiar times we're one is up until the wee hours of the morning, frustrated by love. The author captures her tired thoughts and emotions beautifully. We've all been there, tired enough to give up and torturing ourselves with love/hate emotions.

Cursing Winds perfectly describes a summer heartbreak in Texas. The author's words put me back into summer. She captures humid weather and hot, rainy days. You may have never been to Texas, but once you've read this you will feel like you have.

Silver Linings is a poem the reader can devour. The words fit so beautifully together, flowing through life, remorse, and hope given by someone who could have been hopeless.

Once Upon an October "I loved you once upon an October when millipedes curled up tight and hid under fallen leaves." This poem is perfect for the end of October and the transition to November. The author captures you from beginning to end with beautiful heartbreak and words that should be sung out loud.

Dilapidated Destination Although inspired by my Inspiration Challenge, it would be a shame not to feature it now. Lovely construction and a powerful meaning. Unique in every way.

Train Station is an interesting poem that inspires the mind or jogs it to a time where we may have run into a particular person we should have spoke to. Just as interesting and unique as the rest of his gallery, a great poem: short and sweet.

FAQ #565: You prohibit the submission of 'pornographic imagery'; what do you consider this to be?
:wow: Thank you for the feature! There is so much fairy art around DA, I am sooo honored for you to consider Woodland as "original".

Are you kidding me? It looks like it should be in a book!! Yes, there is a lot of fairy art, but it all looks alike. You have such a great style that I've never seen in fairy manipulation. It reminds me of The Hobbit or Princess Bride. Plus the detail is unfathomable, I'm sure it took forever.

Each word equates a drop of blood
Each sentence drains a vein
Each stanza speeds my beating heart
Each couplet fends off the pain
