FAQ: The 100 Deviant Project

Sat Dec 29, 2007, 8:06 AM
The 100 Deviants Project!!

People over this project: =bewarecalamity & =SesshysRose
The idea: Get 100 new or unknown deviants featured on as many journals as possible.
The date: Begins Jan. 1st. ends Dec. 2008.
My part: I will be featuring a new deviant and three of their deviations every Sunday and Wednesday in my journal.
Your part: If you get involved in this project you will have to stay subscribed to my journal and make sure to update the features in your journal. (I realize that some people don't get on dA twice a week. I'm not expecting 100% involvement, but that would be cool.)

F.A.Q.s

How can I be involved in this project?
To be involved in this project means dedicated a little bit of time and journal space. That's all! Signing up to be involved means that you will be one of many deviants who feature a designated artist twice a week.

How will I know which deviant to feature?
Every Saturday you will receive a note from me containing the deviant to be featured on Sunday and the one to be featured on Wednesday. It is up to you to decide which three deviations you will feature from both of these artists.

You will also receive a standard summary of both artists. (ie: =bewarecalamity's gallery is a photomanipulation gallery that really does mean "beware, calamity".) These summaries are not required to be used. You may (and are encouraged) to write your own.

What if I become a participant during the week?

You can simply watch my journal to see what I update for on Sunday/Wednesday, or you can wait until the next Saturday.

Will there be any contests in this project?
Although there is no plans for a contest at this moment, we are discussing it.

How do I stay up to date with the project and talk to other participants?
To keep up with all current events within the project (as well as to make a suggestion), go here: [link]

What is 100D?
100D is the shortening of "The 100 Deviant Project". It is to be used accordingly. ;)

Where can I get those 100D images for my journal header?
If you're a subscribed member you can get it here: [link]

What is the difference between a participating deviant and a featured deviant?
A participating deviant is the a deviant who notes me and decides to feature all of the predetermined deviants each week. A featured deviant is a deviant who has been featured by all people within the project.

How do I become a participant?
Note me with the subject title: 100 Deviant Project.

Can I become a participant once the project is started?
Yes, you can become a participant up until the last week of the project.

Participating Deviants

Do I have to be a subscribed member of deviantART to be a participating member?
No, if you are not a subscribed member of dA (a member who cannot post thumbs) simply post dA name links (ie: =bewarecalamity) and dA icon links.
(ie: :iconbewarecalamity:)

I don't know how to post name and icon links.
To post a name link like =bewarecalamity post this in your journal without the spaces:
: dev bewarecalamity :

To post a name link as an icon, post this in your journal without the spaces:
: icon bewarecalamity :

What do the people who participate get?
I will be keeping a complete list of past deviants featured as well as participating deviants in my journal. This means with each journal of mine, you will be featured. Also, I will be making two news articles where I feature the first fifty featured deviants and the participating deviants in June (2008) and all featured and participating deviants in December (2008).

What if I don't approve of featuring a certain artist because of nudity/personal reasons?
You can always choose to opt out and not feature that deviant for three-four days. Please make sure to note me the reason so I can better choose deviants for features.

Can a participating deviant also be a featured deviant?
Yes! Being a participating deviant ensures that I consider your gallery for a feature in the project. However, trying to recommend yourself is an immediate disqualification (it's anti-community).

Can I donate a subscription to this cause?
Yes, please note me if you're interested in donating anything.

Featured Deviants

How do you pick the deviants to be featured? Are there any requirements?
=SesshysRose and I ultimately pick the deviants to be featured based on the creativity and composition of their gallery. Since I don't know every single deviant on dA, I am asking everyone to please ge here: [link] and make as many suggestions as possible.

Requirements for Suggestions:
- Must have less than 25,000 page views.
- Must not have a DD within the last three months. [Changed: Jan. 13th]
- Must not suggest yourself. Anyone who suggests themselves is automatically not a featured deviant. If you are a participant then you are automatically considered candidates for features.
- The deviant's gallery must offer something fresh and creative to the community.

Can I feature my friend ___?
Features should be only by the standards above. Please do not send any suggestions just because a deviant is your friend. Also, only suggestions noted from participating project members will be taken. If you want your suggestion looked at, please be involved in the project.

Can a featured deviant become a project member after they've been featured?
Yes, any deviant can become a participating deviant at any time.

FAQ #565: You prohibit the submission of 'pornographic imagery'; what do you consider this to be?
I think it's a very good idea...and I'll do my best to help out and go along with it if ya wanna add me to the list! I can't offer 100% involvement, but I will sure the hell try! :hug: By the way, your package hasn't even been sent yet...I'm gonna try to get it out today or tomorrow! (dad plans on taking it today...but with him, who knows)^^;

I'm taking suggestions right now. I'm going to begin compiling a list and keeping it in an old journal entry for anyone who wants to see the future featured people. (Do you think that's a good idea?)

FAQ #565: You prohibit the submission of 'pornographic imagery'; what do you consider this to be?
Hmmm, I wouldn't put it in a journal...or I wouldn't tell people...what if over a hundred deviants are suggested...? (Of course, you coud always keep tally of those suggested more than once) I do have an idea though...for those that are doing the project...let them know who is being featured in advance (maybe a day) so they have time to pick (instead of the same three pieces on all journals) the three pieces of the featured deviant they enjoyed or liked most. This way, they might be more attuned to what's being featured...more people might participate in the project if they know they have more say in the matter...

You might even give a list of deviants and allow those participating a chance to vote over what two will be featured that week...

Just a few ideas that might show people they have a say in what's going on!

Hope this helps some!^^;

Hrm, I like that idea. I thought of something similar because I know people like to have more control over what's happening. I could also see a scenario where someone doesn't like a particular deviant's work, doesn't feature it, then gets behind in the project. But, I'm afraid that if I put so much participation in (via voting) that it would 1. discourage deviants from being involved (I know I'm involved in a few projects that I tend to shun away from because of the demand in participation) and 2. it could ultimately lead to something that should be hosted on a separate account all together. I considered making a separate account for this project, but I think that responsibility load could be too much for me. I know so many clubs that go down because the leaders can't handle the load and can't get the club name "out there". So I thought that maybe biweekly participation being voluntary if you sign up, it would lessen the responsibility on the participants.

I'm not sure if I'm following what you mean about three pieces so you don't have the same pieces in the same journals. Do you mean three per deviant or three deviants?

I love the idea of telling the participants ahead of time. Do you think I could send out a note every Saturday with Sunday and Wednesday's deviants? I was thinking about it, but I don't know how many people you can send a note to.

Thank you so much for the suggestions! I've been so afraid I'd snowball all of this because lack of input. ^^;
